Burdett House B&B

Burdett House is a modern Victorian bed and breakfast in an 1880 Queen Anne home on Main Street in the village of Burdett — four guestrooms, eight guests maximum, and a homemade breakfast served in the dining room every morning. It's the kind of place where the whole house is yours to settle into rather than a room you retreat to.

The renovation is the story here. The owners set out to reuse and recycle wherever possible, sourcing fixtures, lighting, and furnishings from reuse centers, architectural salvage warehouses, auctions, yard sales, and even Craigslist. The constraint shaped the design: the interiors read as period-appropriate to the 1880s house without feeling like a museum, and no two rooms landed the same way.

Each of the four rooms takes its name from a piece of New York history — Knickerbocker, Empire, Excelsior, Roosevelt. All have a queen bed with a hypoallergenic latex mattress, an en-suite bath, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a smart TV, and access to coffee, tea, water, and snacks around the clock.

The village location puts you two miles north of Watkins Glen with dining, tasting rooms, and trails a short drive in every direction. Ithaca and Corning are twenty minutes out; Geneva and Hammondsport about forty-five.

🏡 Reclaimed & Restored — an 1880 Queen Anne renovated with salvaged fixtures, lighting, and furnishings sourced from reuse centers, auctions, and architectural salvage.

Our Story

Burdett House is small on purpose. Four rooms, eight guests, one dining room, and a breakfast that gets made from scratch every morning. You are not checking into a property here. You are staying in a house.

The renovation took the long road. Rather than ordering everything new, the owners worked reuse centers, salvage warehouses, auctions, and yard sales to find fixtures and furnishings that belonged in an 1880 Queen Anne. That approach shows up in the details — the vintage brass in the Empire bath, the cathedral ceilings in Excelsior, the wrought iron bed in Knickerbocker. Nothing matches, and that is the point.

Tips for Guests

  • Book direct through the reservation system and you'll save $10 per night over the third-party sites.
  • Excelsior faces west with a private deck for sunset; Knickerbocker faces east with a veranda for morning coffee. Pick by what time of day you want to be outside.
  • The house dates to 1880 and isn't ADA compliant, but the Roosevelt room and dining room are both on the ground floor.
  • Two nights is the usual stay, but three or four gives you room for the wineries, Watkins Glen, and a slower pace.
  • Flag dietary restrictions or allergies at booking so breakfast can be planned around them.
  • Pets can't stay, but Hudson the house Aussiedoodle is hypoallergenic and happy to fill the gap.
