The Burdett Exchange

The Burdett Exchange is a local gourmet grocery — a "meat and mercantile" — in the heart of the village of Burdett at the east end of Seneca Lake. Set inside the beautifully restored former Burdett firehouse, it's a one-stop shop for the freshest, most local goods the Finger Lakes region has to offer.

The shelves are stocked almost entirely with Finger Lakes-made and Finger Lakes-grown provisions. The Exchange works with a network of local farms, creameries, bakeries, roasters, and artisans to bring together quality natural beef and pork, fresh produce, cheese, eggs, and baked goods, alongside pantry staples and made-local goods like pottery, spices, jams, honey, and hot sauce.

Open every single day from 9am to 6pm, it's the easiest way to fill your fridge — or your cooler — with genuinely local ingredients while you're exploring the east shore. A proud member of the South East Seneca Business Alliance, it has become a true anchor of downtown Burdett.

Our Story

The Burdett Exchange has breathed real life back into the village of Burdett. When the old firehouse went up for sale in 2021, Johnathan and Lindsey Wasson saw a chance to turn the historic building into a market — and with Johnathan's carpentry skills, they restored it into a striking shop that blends industrial character with traditional market warmth.

Johnathan grew up on his family's farm right here in Burdett and studied agricultural business, and the store gave the family's high-quality natural beef and pork a way to reach customers directly. Lindsey grew up helping run her parents' farm stand. Together they built a place where locals and visitors alike can fill their fridges with quality ingredients — and given downtown Burdett a genuine heartbeat in the process. We're so glad to have them in South East Seneca.
