J.R. Dill Winery

J.R. Dill Winery sits on the southeast shore of Seneca Lake in Burdett — a small-batch, handcrafted winery about 6 miles north of Watkins Glen that has built a devoted following for its genuinely welcoming atmosphere and quality estate wines. Founded in 2009, J.R. Dill is a hands-on operation: every wine is crafted from 100% Seneca Lake grapes with meticulous attention at every step.

The tasting room is one of the more distinctive on Route 414 — the lake glass bar is a conversation piece, featuring years of beach glass collected from right here at Seneca Lake. Inside, historic photography lines the walls alongside a view of the production area. The covered deck outside offers gorgeous Seneca Lake views and is the spot to settle in with a flight and a snack menu that goes well beyond the usual cheese and crackers.

No reservations required for tastings — walk in any day the winery is open and you'll be welcomed. The snack menu (pretzels with beer cheese, meat and cheese platters, artichoke spinach dip, meatball nachos) makes this a great mid-trail stop for groups who want something to eat alongside their pours. Bubbles and Breakfast events on select summer Sundays are a seasonal highlight not to miss.

Our Story

J.R. Dill is the kind of winery that earns repeat visits for all the right reasons — the staff is genuinely warm, the wines are thoughtfully made from 100% Seneca Lake grapes, and the vibe is exactly right. Not too precious, not too casual. The rosé and sparkling are consistently excellent. The lake glass bar alone is worth the stop.

The covered deck is one of the best spots on Route 414 for a mid-afternoon pause — Seneca Lake stretching out in front of you, something cold in hand, a snack menu that actually satisfies. And the Bubbles and Breakfast event on select summer Sundays has become one of the most talked-about mornings on the east shore. J.R. Dill gets it right.
